A quick reminder as you head into the weekend.
Can I give you an assignment as we head into the weekend?
For my friends in the U.S., it’s a 3-day holiday weekend. For my friends everywhere else, it’s just an ordinary couple of days off.
Either way, the invitation is the same:
Rest.
More specifically, do nothing fundraising-related.
Sleep in. And take a nap on the same day (yes, both are necessary).
Go for a walk. Or sit outside and notice the breeze.
Grill a burger. Enjoy a cold beer and the return of Formula 1 and college football all in the same weekend.
Work on a puzzle or play a board game. Linger slowly over your coffee on the back porch. Read something just for fun. Call a friend. Watch a movie you’ve seen a dozen times. Say “yes” to dessert.
Watch the clouds. Spend some time in slow silent prayer. Breathe deeply. Be still.
Take time to notice life around you.
That’s it. No urgent emails. No deadlines. No reports. No fundraising strategy. Just rest.
Busy season is coming and it’ll be here before you know it.
The year-end campaigns, the donor visits, the board presentations, the appeal letters.
It’s all coming.
And you’ll rise to meet it, because you always do.
But not today. Not this weekend.
This weekend?
Rest.
And remember … you are so much more than the money you raise.
