Afraid of asking? Try this helpful assumption.
Are you familiar with the term “assume positive intent”?
It’s a simple idea from organizational leadership that applies to fundraising, as well.
Assuming positive intent simply means choosing to believe the best about people and trusting they have good intentions.
How can you ASSUME POSITIVE INTENT when you’re inviting someone to give?
Here are three important assumptions I try to make any time I’m inviting someone to give:
1️⃣ This person enjoys being generous and wants to give.
2️⃣ They don’t mind being asked.
3️⃣ They will not be offended if I ask for more than they can give.
Making these assumptions does not guarantee a yes.
All of these assumptions can be true, and sometimes people still say no.
They may have a different passion, priority, or amount in mind. They may not be able to give at this time. They may even laugh at the amount (ask me how I know).
✅ But people want to give.
✅ They don’t mind being asked.
✅ And they are not going to be offended.
Are your negative assumptions holding you back?
Assume positive intent instead.
