What if I don't like fundraising?

“I don’t like fundraising.” 😕

I hear this all the time. It’s usually not true. 🤔

  • You may not like asking people to give. 🙅
  • You may not like rejection. 🚫
  • You may not like all the details required to do it well. 📊
  • You may not like the workrequired to form meaningful relationships with people based on their connection with your cause.💞
  • You may not like asking busy people to carve out time to meet with you when the last thing they want to do is meet with fundraising staff. 🕰️
  • You may not like the spotlight of a role with such measurable outcomes. 🌟
  • You may not enjoy the pressure of doing work with so much riding on your success. 😰
  • You may not like being accountable for those big revenue goals. 📈

You may not enjoy any of these things. 😩

But fundraising? 🎉

Fundraising is a BLAST. 🚀

The part where people give, and you get to watch as the money is transformed into life-changing impact in the lives of the people you serve?

I’ve never met a nonprofit leader or board member who doesn’t smile when THAT happens. 😄

You may not enjoy ANY of the tasks required to make fundraising happen…

You may not be willing to put in the work or do the hard things…

But fundraising itself is actually quite fun. 🎈

If you think don’t like fundraising, try asking yourself specifically which parts you don’t enjoy. 🤔

If you can get super specific about the parts of the process you don’t like, you can start to work on eliminating, delegating, or even learning how to enjoy them.

If you can get brutally honest with yourself about where your problem is, you might just discover that you’re closer to enjoying fundraising than you think. 😉❤️

So… can I ask you a question? 🤨

What is it about fundraising that you don’t like? 😁📝

And what’s one step you can take TODAY to do something about it?
